"My choice to come to Greece was natural, I didn't think about it too much. I hadn't been in Greece before, and I was fascinated by it, history, culture, language, and of course the sea and the sun!

I didn't even consider any other countries.

Working as an au pair is an experience one never forgets. It gives you so much, you learn responsibility, and take care of things in life you didn't necessarily have to take care of before. Working with a family, and living in a family is always a challenge, of course, with different culture and different habits. But with open mind it gives young people much to learn and much to keep with them all their lives. Besides the time with the family, time as an au pair gives a chance to see the world and live in one place for longer, thus understanding more the country, its people, the way of living...

My time in Greece was wonderful, not only I fell in love with Greece immediately, I also learned the language, made new friends that have stayed with me ever since. Funniest story is that I met a Finnish girl when I arrived in Athens, we became the best friends right away, and now she is married with my brother!

After my time as an au pair, I have been returning to Greece sometimes even for longer periods, knowing the language, I have been able to work in several places and gather unique experience for my current work.

For those young people who are interested in au pairing, I would say go on, use the chance and opportunity to have time of your life you will always remember. It is not always easy, but every difficulty is possible to come over. Never forget that you are not alone even if it might feel like that in the beginning, if you do au pairing through an office, they are always ready to help you, even in smallest things. It is an experience that will definitely give you courage, wider understanding and of course, fun!"

Hallo ! My name is Marieke and I am from Holland.
I have been an au pair in Greece for 6 months.
In May I arrived in Athens at an English speaking family.
After 1,5 months we went on Paros island for vacation.
The first month was difficult because everything is so different.Another country, a different house, a new family and home, different things to do in the house and the responsibility of a child.But all this was part of the adapting period.
During my stay I met a lot of nice people from all over the world.
Finland, Sweden, Germany, USA, Canada. Belgium, Holland everywhere..
Even if I stayed for 6 months it was worth it!
I was in a beautiful country , in a great family and I look back on the great time in which I have changed and grown!
